The Science Behind Active Immune
What is Wellmune®?
Wellmune is a unique baker’s yeast beta 1,3/1,6 glucan postbiotic — a purified fibre, not a live culture or probiotic. It’s the first ingredient clinically studied as an oral trainer of the innate immune system, helping the body prepare to respond more efficiently to future challenges. Recent findings (published 2024–2025, led by Dr. Brian McFarlin, in Methods and BioTech journals) confirm its immune-modulating effects — training key immune cells without overstimulating the immune system.
Who can benefit?
Wellmune supports a wide range of people — from children and athletes to older adults and those under stress. It’s backed by more than 50 studies, including clinical trials across all of these groups.
Why immune health matters
Immune health remains the top benefit people look for in everyday health products. Over half of immune-conscious consumers also care about stress management, and more than half of adults over 60 specifically look for products with targeted immune ingredients.
Not all beta glucans are the same
Beta glucan isn’t one single ingredient — it’s a category, found in yeast, oats, mushrooms, and algae. Each source has a different structure, purity level, and branching pattern, and research confirms these structural differences are what determine how the body responds. Wellmune’s specific yeast-derived source and proprietary purification process are what the clinical research has actually studied — a generic “beta glucan” on a label carries no such guarantee. That’s why Active Immune is formulated with Wellmune specifically, not a substitute.
Trusted and regulated
Wellmune holds Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status from the US FDA, plus regulatory approval across major global markets, and is used in immune products in more than 60 countries.
Why it matters for you
Active Immune combines Wellmune with everything else your body needs for everyday energy and wellness — and like every product we make, it’s pharmacist-formulated to be safe alongside regular medication. That matters, given over a third of Irish adults take medication regularly.
